Weekly Report

Nutmeg is weaving a small "treasure pouch" in Colonial Girls. I am so excited about that class, and I hope something similar is offered next year. This week is much the same as last week except Nutmeg got a new piano book. It is Keyboard Muscian Book One in the Harmony Row course. Even though she says she hates piano, she is excited about the new book. The focus has been on ear training, now they will be doing sightreading, learning to accompany a singer and some other skills. We are nearing the end or our Savanna Unit. There are some great books about Kenya and the Savanna and the Massai people at the library. I am starting to plan our next unit, or rather units. I will soon post our projected science schedule through 2009. I am really excited. Nutmeg is excited about Swimming Creatures of the Fifth day by Apologia. We will have to make some slight changes to the lessons though: whether there is a young earth, an old earth, dinosaurs on the Ark, or Mercury created full of potholes and craters and whales instantly formed fully grown is certainly more than the Bible or Church feels the need to tell us. And if it is not essential to salvation, well I am not going to dig my heels in. I just do not have a horse in that race, if you know what I mean. But other than a few modifications, we are looking forward to it. Are there middle-of-the-road science programs that teach and compare various theories without going on crusade? I have friends at church that believe God used evolution to create creation ( you know who you are!!) I don't know and don't care. We will compare and contrast the theories and then move on!! I did not plan to get on a soapbox about people who get on soapboxes, but there you have it.
