A Whale (shark) of a Good Time!

Yesterday, we went to the Georgia Aquarium with some friends. I included many pictures on this post for those of you who have not had the opportunity to visit. I did not take any pictures of the beluga whales for some reason. I have so many pictures of them from previous trips that I thought I would just sit and watch them without worrying about getting the perfect shots.

Nutmeg and I are tired from our trip, and I just want to stitch while she reads a Nancy Drew. Buttercup is pretending to be a water droplet which, for some reason means she has to be in constant motion. It also means she must constantly jabber. I put a stop to her flicking water all over the house as she whirls and twirls by!

Daybook 12 April 2010

Outside my window... This is the first year I have grown asparagus. I love watching the beautiful shoots emerge.

I am thinking... About the appointments I need to make for the girls, the cats, the dog...

I am thankful for... My beautiful daughters and nieces, beautiful church liturgies, 40 days of Easter, my garden...

From the learning rooms... This week we will start the respiratory system...

From the kitchen... I am making veggie burgers tonight. The rice is already cooked, and I am intrigued by the addition of sunflower seeds.

I am wearing... My walking clothes...I really need to shower and change...

I am creating... A recipe binder with all my favorite tried and true recipes, organized with plenty of tabs!

I am going... walking with a friend every morning; it has been so invigorating!

I am reading... Mostly history and science books to try and stay a few steps ahead of my 9-year old.

I am hoping... for a good rain to wash away the pollen and nourish my gardens.

I am hearing... a surprising silence as the girls work on their lessons in peace - for the moment.

Around the house... I need to get the grip on my bedroom. I have been concentrating on organizing the kitchen and pantry. Now I need to de-stress my bedroom.

One of my favorite things... Those flat sandwich/burger buns!

A few plans for the rest of the week... Visiting my sister and playing with my nieces, homeschool science day with a friend...

Another Royal Start

Spring is here, plants are rising from the earth, birds are making their nests, and I am starting new projects! I have been wanting to start the Papillon Creations "Mary Queen of Scots" for ages. I have a soft spot for that tragic queen. I think she had a far better claim to the the throne of England than "Good" Queen Bess! I have chosen 36 ct Edinburgh (how appropriate!) linen and DMC 498. I was very nervous about starting because I knew from the beginning I wanted to leave out the beautiful alphabet. I would love to do the border and the alphabet one day; I just think the lower half and the upper half are two stand-alone designs. JMHO. ;) The pattern contains much information about Mary as well as information to get a chart of the motto in French. I plan on using that.

Here is some random cuteness!

Carriage House Samplings Obsession

I was so sorry to hear that CHS is going to close its doors. As soon as I read that, I went through my stash (I mean, "our" stash, Mom) looking for CHS designs that I have not yet stitched. I get obsessed with one designer at a time and decide that they are the greatest artists in the whole world and I am going to stitch their entire line and nothing else! I usually get through a design or two and then rediscover another favorite genius!

I finished the creepy purple gal pictured above. I like her in a weird way. I look at her like I make myself look at writing spiders. Then I shudder and move away.

Yesterday I started "Point the Way to Heaven." I like the orange and green. Maybe it reminds me of my 1970s nursery. I need to find a picture and post it. It was yellow and orange with mushrooms. Maybe that is why I like to stitch oranges, greens and all the different browns!

An almost-finish!

I suppose I should have finished it before I put it on the blog, but I wanted to let you know that I am still here! I was having trouble getting the photos off my camera!

This is a Little House Needleworks design from Just Cross Stitch. I picked it up a week or so ago at my LNS. It has been a fun and quick stitch. I think I should have done the chapter and verse in the darker purple, but I just don't feel like picking and restitching!
